Mr. Maps are a dynamic live ensemble from Brisbane, Australia. They create a unique style of instrumental rock which draws on the traditions of post/math-rock, contemporary classical and indie-rock. Their compositions are experimental and meticulous, with an air of optimism and beauty. Live reviews have been littered with words like “precise”, “energetic” and “breathtaking”. Sonic comparisons have been made with bands such as Battles, Tortoise, toe, and Sigur Ros.

The band formed in 2008, and released their debut double-EP in 2009. Entitled “Mimicry of Lines and Light”, it embodied both sides of the Mr. Maps coin: heavily processed cut-and-paste experiments and raw rock band energy. The release received airplay on Triple J and loads of local radio stations, and two tracks from the release reached the finals in the prestigious Q-song awards.

A few line up changes have kept the band on their toes. Founder Chris Perren and long standing members Andrew White (restream) and Chloe Cooper (Toy Balloon), and new recruits Jack Hicks (Re:Enactment, Maudlin), and local cellist and producer Briony Luttrell (Tara Simmons, Maudlin, Liam Griffin, James Grehan) now form the complete 5-piece ensemble.

They’ve been kept busy throughout 2010 with interstate tours and the preparation of their forthcoming album “Wire Empire”.
