Mr. Maps are a five-piece instrumental rock band from Brisbane, Australia.

Since their inception in 2007, Mr. Maps have quickly earned a reputation for unique, transcendental live performances. Mr. Maps’ sound features complex layers of bass, drums and guitar lifted by lush piano and cello, and punctuated by electronic glitches and tones. Their compositions are experimental and meticulous with an air of optimism and beauty, blending math-rock with elements of New York post-classical and electronics.

Mr. Maps released their debut album Wire Empire in January 2011. Wire Empire is an instrumental opus, flittering between the delicate and the crushingly huge. It is a complex masterpiece that retains Mr. Maps’ signature combination of mathematical rhythms and lush sweeping melodies, whilst boasting a more defined and resolute sound.

Wire Empire was launched at a sold-out show in Brisbane. The album has been gathering critical acclaim, becoming ‘Album of the Week’ in TimeOff Magazine, ‘Indie Release of the Week’ in Rave Magazine, a feature album on RTRfm and the most played album on 4zzz for three consecutive months. Both advanced single ‘Nice Fights’ and B-side ‘Fly You Monumental Mistake’ earnt places in the 4zzz Hot 100 in 2010 (#39 and #74 respectively).

Mr. Maps are known for their unconventional approach to live shows, often engaging artists from different disciplines to complement their performances. Members of Mr. Maps have also been key players in the development of Lofly Recordings, an emerging Brisbane music label, and helped to curate Hangar, Brisbane’s premier underground music event.

Previous accolades for the band have included high praise for their 2009 double-EP release, Mimicry Of Lines And Light, with two of the songs nominated as finalists in the prestigious QSong Awards. They have performed at high profile events such as No Years Festival, Valley Fiesta and 2high Festival.
