We’re pretty excited about 2 new video clips from the lofly crop.

Firstly the beautifully surreal video for Re:Enactment’s Higher Duties, directed by Isaac Bell of RebelEra Productions. There’s doppelgangers, strange strobes in the wilderness, and an underground warehouse party (filmed at Hangar)  making for a deliciously mysterious puzzle for the viewer to solve. All this goes on to the soundtrack of the excellent Higher Duties single.

Secondly, if you’ve followed the Mr. Maps story this year, you may remember the band launched their single Tennis Party with… a Tennis Party. Yes, that’s right, a party on a tennis court. A crowd of friends and fans gathered on a Sunday arvo to enjoy some strawberries and cream and chill out on the astroturf of New Farm Park Tennis Courts. Talented filmmaker Frank Casablanca was there, and documented the good times in this awesome clip for Tennis Party (the song).

This weekend is a good one to get out and see some music!

lofly presents a shameless celebration of the quality bands gracing the pages of the label’s catalogue. If you’re in love with one of these bands but have never heard of the others, then this is the perfect chance to sample the breadth of the what we’ve got going on in one loud toe-tapping swoop.

It’s $10 to get in and doors open at 8pm.

October 15. It’s the day Napoleon was exiled on St Helena Island, The Edison Electric Light Company opened its doors, and the day Wayne Gretzky became the all-time leading points scorer in the NHL. It’s also the day of Hangar the Beetle #05, and we continue the historical traditions of exiling the musically dull, turning on the bright lights of rock, and scoring record-breaking good times points.

Along with the regular attractions of the lovely Beetle Bar, good company, and reasonable bar prices, we have some music on show that is worthy of the history books.

Nikko
Describing themselves as “Dark Frontier Rock”, Nikko have refined their specialty of skillfully melancholy songwriting combined with massive post-rock epicness. Not to be missed.

Desert Ghost
Relatively new on the scene, Desert Ghost bring a technical and intricate sound rarely heard in Brisbane. Fans of Minus the Bear, Foals and This Town Needs Guns will love it.

Only the Sea Slugs
These four sydney-siders are trekking up to show off their new mini-album “Street Music”. It’s an excitingly unusual twist on well-crafted indie pop that you probably shouldn’t miss.

Friends of Ben
Despite the shimmering clean guitars and the reverb-soaked near-perfect vocal harmonies, these guys are not just riding the wave of post-Vampire-Weekend hipness; there’s much more to these excellent songs than that. Come and see it for yourself.

This Friday night, 23 September, Re:Enactment play GoMA’s prestigious “Up Late” slot. Accompanying the incredible Surrealism exhibition and some great panels and screenings, Re:Enactment will be the perfect icing on the cultural cake of an evening at the gallery.

They go on at 8:30, don’t be late!

This week Mr. Maps have a run of shows at Metro Arts, as part of the Brisbane Festival Under the Radar program.

Mr. Maps have been collaborating with lighting designers and visual artists to create ‘You Are Here’ – an immersive sound, light and spatial experience. Think sound-triggered lights, angular rhythms and lush sweeping melodies. There will be no stage and audience members are encouraged to move around the room to create their own unique take of the show.

Mr. Maps will be composing new material that will not be heard at any other show.

There is a strict capacity of 35 per show so get your tickets quick!

All without even venturing into that awful Fortitude Valley.

Brisbane independent record label collective SOUNDSLIKEBRISBANE (SLB) is partnering with new venue The Crown Hotel, for a series of labels showcase nights throughout August and September.  Saturday august 13th will be a combined SUGARRUSH and Lofly records. They’ll be showcasing their wares in the form of Re:enactment, My Fiction, and newcomers Gentlmen
